This is the chance we’ve been waiting for to move the Cruelty-Free Cosmetics Act forward in the Senate!
This Thursday morning (Sept. 21), the Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology will decide its agenda for the fall session, and we need to be sure that Bill S-214 — an act to ban cosmetic animal testing and trade in Canada — is on that agenda.
The Cruelty-Free Cosmetics Act has been languishing in the Senate since December 2015. Senators need to hear that this is an issue that matters to Canadians, and that we expect them to prioritize Bill S-214.
Let’s make sure the Senate hears our call to end cosmetic animal testing in Canada!
So here’s what we need you to do RIGHT NOW to help:
1) Phone Bank: Call the Members of the Senate Social Affairs, Science and Technology Committee and ask them to please prioritize Bill S-214. The list of the Senators can be found here: https://sencanada.ca/en/committees/soci/. Just click on their name and you’ll find all of their information. Remember to be polite and courteous. If they have issues with the bill, tell them they could simply propose amendments, but that you’re counting on them to do the right thing.
2) Email: Please click here to send a message the Chair and Members of the Committee and urge them to support this bill (alternately, scroll down for all their email addresses). Feel free to use your own words or cut and paste the following:
Dear Chair and Members of the Standing Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology,
I am writing to ask you to move forward, as a committee, with Bill S-214. Cosmetic animal testing, as well as the sale of cosmetic products and ingredients that have been newly animal tested elsewhere in the world, should be banned in Canada. This outdated practice is already banned in 37 countries around the world, including the European Union, Israel and India.
Adoption of this bill will alleviate the suffering of animals in labs across Canada and the world. Please show your compassion and be a voice for the voiceless and prioritize the review of this bill by your committee.
Thank you for your consideration.
