Our Commitment to Protecting Your Privacy
Your privacy is important to us. The Animal Alliance of Canada will respect your privacy through the protection of any personal information that you provide to us. We take great care to keep both confidential and secure all personal information in our possession.
What is “Personal Information”
“Personal Information” is information about an identifiable individual. It includes information such as name, address, e-mail address, telephone number, other contact information and financial information.
Collecting Personal Information
If you received a mailing from us, it was because you:
(a) are a donor or supporter;
(b) a volunteer;
(c) have recently taken action with one of our online tools;
(d) have asked to be included in our mailings; or
(e) have an existing relationship with us.
We respect your time and the environment by controlling the frequency of our mailings.
We collect the least amount of personal information from donors and members when they contribute to Animal Alliance of Canada. You may also choose to provide us with personal information on a voluntary basis, such as when registering for an event or signing a petition.
Animal Alliance of Canada does not enlist street fundraisers. People interested in supporting Animal Alliance of Canada are encouraged to contribute through our website or by contacting directly the main office.
If you submit your e-mail address and/or personal information through our website, you consent to being added to our e-mail list. You may unsubscribe from our e-mail list at any time using the “Remove my name” link provided in each email message or by contacting our office.
Usage of Personal Information
We use your personal information to communicate with you. We believe it is important to communicate with our supporters and with Canadians on a regular basis.
As a national organization, Animal Alliance of Canada personnel may contact you to notify you of an event or important issue in your area. If you do not wish to be contacted, please let us know.
Your financial information is used to process your contributions (with credit card processors or financial banking institutions, to debit or credit your account, for one-time or monthly contributions).
We may also use the information we collect for internal research and analysis purposes.
Additionally, non-personal information may be collected by the Animal Alliance of Canada through the use of cookies, including third-party cookies. Cookies allow us to understand how people are using our site and help us deliver better content to our visitors. We may use this information, in aggregate, to improve our site or to assist in campaigning.
Protecting your Personal Information
We maintain security systems to safeguard your personal information from unauthorized access, disclosure or misuse, and from loss or unauthorized alteration.
Safeguards include physical measures (such as locked doors or locked file cabinets), organizational measures (such as staff training, limited access and security clearances) and technological measures (such as passwords and anti-virus software for computer systems).
Training and periodic retraining is given to staff and volunteers on the correct collection, use and protection of personal information. Training will be tailored to their specific roles. A limited number of staff and volunteers are granted access to such information. Volunteers are given only as much personal information as is necessary for them to perform their work.
The software we use to maintain personal information and process contributions requires passwords that are changed regularly and utilizes encryption. Transmission of personal information on portable devices is minimized whenever possible. Personal information is never stored on portable devices. Information is retained in accordance with Canada Revenue Agency guidelines and securely destroyed after the required amount of time.
We will not share, rent or sell your personal information that you have chosen to provide us.
In the event of a privacy breach, we commit to documenting the circumstances that led to the breach, the personal identifying information that might have been compromised and immediately and proactively informing affected individuals.
Accuracy of Personal Information
We keep your personal information as accurate as possible. If you wish to update your personal information, contact us by e-mail at contact@animalalliance.ca or 416-462-9541.
