URGENT ACTION ALERT for Mally’s Third Chance Raccoon Rescue

ACTION ALERT FOR MALLY'S THIRD CHANCE RACCOON RESCUE

Your help is urgently needed in the unwarranted seizure of baby raccoons from a wildlife rehabilitation facility, similar to what occurred 20 years ago in Ottawa at the Ottawa-Carleton Wildlife Centre. As you will see in the letter template below, the actions of the Ministry were outrageous, to say the least.

You can help by taking 3 easy steps:

1) Put your MPP’s name in the salutation of the letter template below, add your name and address at the end and email the letter to your MPP. You can find your MPP’s name by using your postal code at this link, to get their email address for your riding: https://voterinformationservice.elections.on.ca/en/election/search

2) Signing the petition at: https://www.change.org/p/urgent-appeal-concerns-regarding-recent-actions-against-mally-s-wildlife-sanctuary

3) Please share this with friends and family living in Ontario, as the more MPPs that receive this letter, the more pressure on the Ford government to respond and return the animals.

Thank you for lending your voice to help these innocent animals.

Letter Template:

Dear Member of Provincial Parliament,

You may have already seen the news reports about a government raid on
a wildlife rehabilitation centre in Kawartha Lakes called Mally’s
Third Chance Raccoon Rescue and Rehabilitation Sanctuary.

I am requesting that you, as my MPP, urge Premier Doug Ford to
intervene and order a return of the animals to Mally’s. Also, to
rein in the staff of the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources (MNRF).

There was a barbaric raid on Mally’s at the end of September. The
Ministry of Natural Resources and Forests’ massive attack saw more
than 40 conservation officers and police,—as well as a canine unit,
helicopter and drones—descend on a charity that cares for orphaned
and injured baby raccoons. Staff and volunteers, who have devoted
months of caring for these animals, were traumatized. Indeed, this
seizure of infant animals receiving care at Mally’s has been widely
condemned by the general public, as evidenced by a Change.org petition
on this subject.

The degree of force used by the MNRF in seizing these baby animals and
terrorizing community volunteers is deeply concerning. Like the Ontario
Greenbelt fiasco, this raid exemplifies Premier Ford and his Ministers
as apparently unaware, uncaring–or merely unable to control the
abusive activities of government staff.

Premier Ford has a responsibility to rein in the activities of the
MNRF. In addition to the waste of taxpayers’ money involved, the
assault at Mally’s raises the question: Who exactly is in charge of
the MNRF?

As a first step, I hope you will demand that Premier Ford return these
orphaned animals to Mally’s, with an apology to the organization
and to members of community at large. Those were the people who sought assistance for these young animals, and who were no doubt deeply grateful that Mally’s was there to help.

The time for transparency and accountability from the MNRF is now.

As well, your reply to this letter would be most appreciated.

Sincerely,

*add your name and address*
